Chelsea continue Todd Boehly strategy amid links to €60m transfer for 20-year-old Atletico Madrid starlet

Chelsea exploring move for Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion

According to Caught Offside, Chelsea and West Ham United are exploring a potential move for Atletico Madrid forward Samu Omorodion. The 20-year-old, who was loaned to Alaves last season and notched nine goals in 35 La Liga games.

Omorodion has shown his credentials at the highest stage and seems to have impressed a number of clubs with his performance this campaign. The report further states that the Spanish striker could be available for the right price, with Chelsea showing interest.

The 20-year-old has a €60 million price tag, but Atletico are keen on holding on to the striker after his productive loan spell. And besides the Blues, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Napoli, and Roma are also in the race to sign the forward.

Chelsea have shown their ambitions towards bringing young players under Todd Boehly, and last season we witnessed when the club bought Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal, who struggled in the league but slowly adjusted and ended the campaign with 14 league goals.

Jackson, at just 22, is showing such maturity in his performance that we can expect him to be ready to take the league by storm in his second season. However, one thing that puts it in doubt is whether he should be the starter in the next campaign.

He still lacks the finishing touch in front of the goal, which he needs to refine to a greater level. If the Blues are keeping faith in him for next season, then we can attempt to sign Omorodion, who can be used as a second choice and will learn under Jackson.

Chelsea continue to show interest in signing Victor Osimhen.

If Jackson is still not ready, Chelsea should look for a more experienced striker who can provide healthy competition for the Senegalese. Signing young players won’t always be a wise move because our project will take more time to come to fruition.

Chelsea have to think rationally because he is just 20 and his price tag seems to be too much for a young player. It will be better for the club to bring in a seasoned striker who boasts lethal finishing in front of goal.
