Chelsea contact Ipswich to search for Mauricio Pochettino’s successor

Chelsea is certain that they will find Mauricio Pochettino‘s successor quickly after alerting Ipswich to their interest in Kieran McKenna, their first choice. After the sudden departure of their boss, Pochettino, the Blues have made searching for a new boss their top priority this summer. This contact has been reported by Sky Sports.

The Stamford Bridge team thinks that if the 38-year-old decides to take on a new challenge, he will prefer them over Brighton and Manchester United. His demand hit a drastic peak following his incredible back-to-back promotion of Ipswich to the Premier League. The boss made it possible after racking up 76 wins during his spell in the Portman Road hot-seat.

Ipswich Town have secured promotion to the Premier League for the first time since 2002. Ipswich becomes only the fifth team in history to secure back-to-back promotions from the third tier to the Premier League.

McKenna is a standout candidate to be the next Blue boss

To lead their ambitious long-term plan, the West London club is seeking to hire a young head coach. It was originally thought that Pochettino was that man, even though he led Chelsea to a European finish in his one and only season with the team because of an incredible ending to his season.

Nonetheless, the 52-year-old and the team decided to move on after an end-of-season evaluation that concluded on Tuesday morning. Chelsea is considering McKenna as a potential replacement for Pochettino, but they are still very much open to other choices as well.

It’s believed that Ipswich will consider letting McKenna take on a new challenge only after receiving a £6 million compensation fee after securing their much-anticipated return to the Premier League.

Sacking Mauricio might be a mistake

Chelsea also has an interest in Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca, who defeated McKenna to win the championship in the just-finished 2023–24 campaign. The Italian, who coached Manchester City under Pep Guardiola, is well-liked at Stamford Bridge following a standout season in which he altered the Foxes’ playing philosophy.

After winning 2-1 against Bournemouth to end their 2023–24 campaign and nearly guaranteeing their place in Europe the next season by placing sixth in the Premier League, the West Londoners are gearing up for a new chapter in their history.
