“We have all spoke about it.” Chelsea academy starlet sheds light on embarrassing penalty confusion vs Everton

Chelsea academy star Alfie Gilchrist gave light to his thoughts on the embarrassing penalty situation against Everton

Mauricio Pochettino‘s Chelsea put on another strong display against Everton on Monday night, playing at their peak. But on an otherwise outstanding night for the Blues, one particular instance stuck out as being somewhat embarrassing for them.

Chelsea thrashed Everton 6-0 on Monday night to maintain their chances of playing in Europe. Cole Palmer scored his second hat-trick in three games, demonstrating why he was still the standout at Stamford Bridge.

The 21-year-old, with his record-breaking performance, joined Erling Haaland as the Premier League’s top scorer with 20 goals after scoring four goals against the Toffees, including three in the first 16 minutes of play.

Jackson tried to grab the ball from Noni Madueke because he was eager to take the spot kick after scoring against the Toffees. Noni earlier thought that he earned the penalty but eventually he realized that it was given due to the tackle on Palmer, which happened just before that. In the end, Chelsea captain Conor Gallagher had to step in, and Cole Palmer, a frequent penalty taker, scored from the penalty spot.

The moment was embarrassing for the Blues, as it was a display of their lack of unity and maturity. According to the reports, Jackson sought the penalty because he wanted to finish the season with 15 goals in the Premier League. The 22-year-old needs five more games to reach his goal of 10 goals. Jackson feels that even 20 is doable till the end and currently has 13 goals.

Chelsea academy graduate Alfie Gilchrist, speaking about the penalty incident to Sky Sports (h/t BBC):

“We have all spoke about it and brushed it aside.”

The team lacks maturity

More Chelsea news

The Blues’ recent display in which after leading with a staggering 5-0, they went on and fought for a penalty kick, shows just how right Mauricio Pochettino was with his recent remark for the squad talking about their lack of maturity.

Chelsea have made a fool of themselves even while winning with a staggering 6-goal lead. The boss, after the match, was furious and strictly cleared it out with the squad that any incident like this should repeat again in the future. One of the most important and basic things in a team is Unity and if you don’t have that then there is no point in being in a team.
