Simon Jordan backs Cole Palmer to take Chelsea penalty responsibility

Simon Jordan has backed Cole Palmer to take up penalty duty after the forward indulged in a confrontation with his Chelsea teammates over the spot-kick issues in the 6-0 win over Everton on Monday night.

Palmer, who has been the Blues’ main penalty taker this season, has scored 20 goals this season in the league, competing with Erling Haaland for Premier League top scorer. However, whenever it comes to penalties, there have been incidents where Chelsea players have made a scene on the pitch rather than put up a united front.

Initially, it was Nicolas Jackson in the match against Manchester United, then it was Raheem Sterling in the Leicester City match, and then it was Noni Madueke. But Palmer was given the responsibility for the penalty by captain Conor Gallagher.

And pundit Jordan defended Palmer for this and urged him to remain Chelsea’s main penalty taker. Speaking to TalkSport via Youtube, he said:

‘’He’s got them winning some games, and the penalty taker is Cole Palmer. The young fella got none of it, and that’s what top footballers should look like.’’

Palmer’s ability to handle the pressures associated with penalty-taking speaks volumes about his maturity and confidence as a young player. In a sport where nerve and precision are paramount, He has demonstrated a remarkable level of composure, stepping up when his team needs him most and delivering when it matters most. Surely having such nerves of steel qualifies him as our clear choice to take up spot-kick duties.

Cole Palmer continues to shine for Chelsea this season.

At its core, football is a team sport that demands cohesion, communication, and collaboration among players. Whether it’s executing intricate passing sequences, orchestrating coordinated defensive manoeuvres, or rallying together in the face of adversity, success hinges on the collective efforts of the entire squad.

However, when disputes arise over matters as trivial as who takes a penalty, such incidents not only breed discord and resentment within the squad but also project an image of disarray and dysfunction to the outside world. Surely, we can at the very least present a united front to the world.

When there’s a player like Palmer who has been successful from the spot and is the designated penalty taker, it’s important for the team to respect that decision and follow the captain’s instructions.

While it’s understandable that other players might feel confident and eager to take penalties, especially in crucial moments of the game, it’s crucial for the team to maintain unity and follow the established protocols.
