Mauricio Pochettino fears Chelsea youngsters have fallen into a comfort zone since joining the club and have suffered a drop in standard. The Argentine manager has struggled to keep the club competing with Premier League clubs, which are lying 12th in the league.

Additionally, the Argentine manager has reservations that this may have something to do with the players stepping outside of their comfort zone. Despite the lacklustre performances, the club owner has focused their recruitment efforts on signing only young players with large budgets.

Pochettino was furious with the Blues’ 2-2 draw with Burnley and felt the players didn’t give their utmost. The Blues now next face Manchester United on Thursday evening, and the former Tottenham manager will hope the players don’t repeat the same performance they did against Clarets.

And to win against United The Argentine manager feels the players have to get out of their comfort zone. Speaking to the media ahead of the United match, he conceded via the Guardian:

“What you say is important. Never be in a comfort zone. If you are in a comfort zone, you drop your level and your standards. I don’t say that happened here because too many other things happened. But that is one of the things that we are aware of. When you mix this a little bit, a small percentage, easy life, easy that, then when you put it all together, it is not easy.’’

When addressing why we haven’t been performing consistently and whether it’s because the player falling into their comfort zone, there are a lot of things to consider. Other issues include a large number of injuries that have provided Pochettino with a lack of options and young, inexperienced players who are unfamiliar with the league.

According to Pochettino’s remarks, players have not stepped outside of their comfort zone. If that were the case, we would be much lower in the table than we currently are. We are aware of how we performed in the Premier League this season, but aside from that, we excelled in domestic cup events.
