Mauricio Pochettino commented on Gary Neville’s ‘billion-pound bottlejobs’ jibe at Chelsea after they lost to Liverpool 1-0 in the Carabao Cup final and revealed it’s not a motivating factor for their FA Cup semi-final clash against Manchester City.
Since their Carabao Cup defeat to Liverpool, the Blues have gone unbeaten, and now they have another chance to secure a final place in another domestic cup final this season when they face City in Wembley.
Neville’s comments weren’t in good taste, but Pochettino feels his words don’t affect his squad, and they don’t see words as motivating factors. The players certainly have other things to see as motivating factors as they hope to reach the final of the FA Cup, where he will face either Manchester United or Coventry.
And when asked about it, Pochettino shut them down and conceded that these are the least things that affect the squad, speaking to the media ahead of the game, he said via Daily Mail:
‘I am not a person who has bad feelings. When things happen, they happen. I hope that we can win and go through to the final. It is our objective. I am not going there thinking that way. I have too many good memories from Wembley. I hope that one day I can lift a trophy there. That is my dream. That is what we want.’’
Since Neville is disparaging our youthful team, his remarks shouldn’t have an impact on us. In addition to his critiques, there are other things that could serve as inspiration. Our sole goal as a young team is to improve to a flawless team for the upcoming season.
The Chelsea team is far from what most people believe. We are in the development phase and won’t deliver results consistently. Undoubtedly, our owners have spent billions of dollars, but they fail to consider the players who are still developing and are young and inexperienced.
They are only a few points behind to guarantee a spot in the Europa League. They have performed better in their second season under Pochettino, making it to the final of the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup semi-final.
