Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag reveals Chelsea did not want to sell Mason Mount
He was among Cobham’s finest. However, after a struggle of a season last term, Mason Mount packed his bags and secured a move for himself to Manchester United under the stewardship of Erik ten Hag. Considering how much he WAS loved at the club, this move came as a dagger to the heart of the Blues faithful, who had seen Mount grow within the setup.
In the end, it was not meant to be. Moving to Old Trafford for an initial fee of £55m in the summer of 2023, things have not gone his way at Newton Heath. The player’s injury issues have been much more consistent than him, limiting him from having any substantial impact at his new club. The 25-year-old central midfielder has only managed 14 appearances across all competitions and only recently scored his first goal for United in the 1-1 draw against Brentford.
A recent revelation from Erik ten Hag makes it public information that, it was in fact, Mount who wanted to move on from Cobham in the first place. Despite multiple new contract offers and the club wanting him to stay, the Portsmouth-born man had his mind set on playing under the Dutchman at United.
Here is what Ten Hag told Manchester United’s website ahead of their visit to Stamford Bridge, where it will not come as a shocker that Mount might see himself subject to a lot of booing.
“I don’t think they wanted to sell him,”
“They wanted to keep him and they even offered him a new contract many times.”
“But he wanted to make the step and we were, and we are, very pleased he is a Man United player because he has great abilities.”
