A View From The Bridge

21-year-old Chelsea star ‘not too far away’ from injury return ahead of Everton clash

Levi Colwill set for return as Chelsea gear up for Everton clash

Chelsea are poised to host Everton at Stamford Bridge on Monday night for their Matchday 33 encounter, with Mauricio Pochettino facing mounting pressure. Despite significant investment in the transfer market since Todd Boehly assumed control of the club, the Blues have struggled to find consistency this season.

Persistent injuries to key players have been a major factor contributing to Chelsea’s underwhelming performances. The Argentine manager has been forced to navigate through a series of lineup changes due to these challenges. However, there is optimism on the horizon as Chelsea anticipate the return of some injured players for the final stretch of the season, providing a glimmer of hope for Pochettino and supporters alike.

Mauricio Pochettino has incurred a difficult first season at Chelsea.

Chelsea’s injury woes are gradually easing, with several players still sidelined but others nearing a return. Reece James, Wesley Fofana, Christopher Nkunku, Romeo Lavia, and Lesley Ugochukwu remain unavailable for the foreseeable future. However, there is optimism surrounding the impending return of Ben Chilwell and Levi Colwill.

Chilwell, who has been sidelined with a knee injury compounded by illness, is expected to rejoin training with the team this week. There are hopes that the vice-captain will be fit to feature in Monday’s match against Everton.

Meanwhile, Colwill is also nearing a comeback after struggling with a toe problem that has kept him out of action for over a month (h/t Football.London). The 21-year-old last played in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw against Brentford and could soon be available for selection.

The Englishman has been one of Chelsea’s standout players this season. Having him back will be a major boost for Pochettino as we enter the final run to the season’s end.

Indeed, the potential return of Ben Chilwell and Levi Colwill could provide Mauricio Pochettino with valuable options, both defensively and tactically. Chilwell’s attacking prowess and goal-scoring threat from the left-back position add an extra dimension to Chelsea’s play, while Colwill’s versatility to operate as a left-center-back or left-back offers flexibility in defensive setups.

Having these two players back in contention against Everton would undoubtedly strengthen Chelsea’s squad depth and provide Pochettino with more tactical flexibility to address the challenges posed by their opponents.
