“It’s extend or sell”- Bayer Leverkusen chief issues huge transfer update on Chelsea January target

Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro reveals the club could consider selling Chelsea target Jonathan Tah

Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro hopes to extend the Jonathan Tah deal, who has been linked with a move to European clubs, including Chelsea. However, the CEO has also hinted at the potential transfer of the centre-back if they fail to renew his deal.

Thiago Silva is expected to depart the team at the end of the current campaign, thus the Blues will likely try to strengthen their defence once more in the upcoming campaign. Chelsea’s defence, which has allowed the most goals this season due to their poor defence, would suffer greatly from his departure.

The Blues’ have a leaky defence, and next summer they will need to find an experienced defender who can fix their defensive frailty. Tah, who has won the Bundesliga with Leverkusen, has attracted interest from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

And now the German club CEO is open to selling their star defender if the interested club decides to meet his price tag, which is around £15.5 million, Speaking to Sky Sports Germany, Carro said via Fabrizio Romano:

“We want to extend Jonathan Tah’s contract; he knows we trust him, and we hope he stays. We’re not losing players for free, so let’s extend or sell him this summer.”

Tah has been beneficial for Leverkusen as he has won the championship; as a centre defender, he has played in 28 league games and scored four goals. Numerous elite Premier League clubs have taken notice of the 28-year-old due to his standout performance, and he will be the ideal replacement for them. He seems like a good Silva successor for the upcoming season.

More Chelsea news

Tah is a left-footed centre-back, which is one of his own shortcomings; we already have two in Levi Colwill and Benoit Badiashile. He is also too slow on the ball and sluggish to anticipate. Nevertheless, considering his low cost, he is also reasonably priced. Since he is not the elite defender we want to sign to shore up our porous defence, it begs the question of why the Blues would want to go after him.
