Fabrizio Romano reveals Chelsea don’t have concrete interest in Jonathan David

Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea’s pursuit of LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David, though the Blues don’t have concrete interest as Napoli are also keen on signing the young striker if Victor Osimhen leaves the club in the summer window.

The Blues striker dilemma continues as they search for a reliable striker for next season. Nicolas Jackson hasn’t been explosive enough to guarantee goals in crucial matches, and this has forced the West Londoners to find competition for the Senegalese.

David is currently enjoying a prolific season with the Ligue 1 side, with 17 goals in 29 league matches this campaign, and his performance has caught the eye of the Blues, who are yet to make a decision on his pursuit.

After Romano confirmed the Blues have been linked with a move for the 24-year-old, but it remains to be seen in the summer window, speaking to the Caught Offside column, he further explained via Chelsea news:

”Another Chelsea story that I wouldn’t read too much into at the moment involves links with Lille striker Jonathan David. I’m aware there has been speculation about the Canadian forward being on Chelsea’s radar but also being of interest to Napoli as a potential replacement for Victor Osimhen.”

Jonathan David has scored 17 goals in Ligue 1 this season.

Come the summer window, we will see many options as we look to add more explosive strikers next season. David is currently having a productive season, and the forward could or could not be a good fit for our squad; it all depends on how we play. And Chelsea doesn’t have a heavy interest in signing him as they have other options as well.

This season, we have been particularly good at creating opportunities, so the team should go after any striker who has a great finishing touch. David is capable of playing for any elite team because of his experience, but we don’t want him to take some time to adjust to the Premier League’s different culture. We require a centre-forward with killer instincts in front of a goal who can make an immediate impact.
