A View From The Bridge

“Chelsea always shoot themselves in the foot”- Chris Sutton makes Everton scoreline prediction that Mauricio Pochettino won’t like

Chris Sutton predicts Chelsea draw against Everton in the Premier League

Chelsea Football Club are an embodiment of uncertainty. The West Londoners find themselves in the 9th spot on the Premier League charts, sixteen points away from UCL football. Considering that is out of the picture, we can still make it to the UEFA Europa League, and that should begin with a win against Everton at Goodison Park on Monday night.

The Blues have lost two of their last three visits to Goodison Park, and the one time we won was thanks to a penalty scored by now-Arsenal midfielder Jorginho. However, speaking of the match on Monday night, Chelsea will hope to pull a win off against a side that won only four points in their last five games.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have drawn two and won three of their last five games, giving them a sense of confidence going to Merseyside. However, Mauricio Pochettino‘s side, as per Chris Sutton, have been their biggest problems themselves, and he does not see the visitors take more than one point back to London.

Chelsea’s last visit to Everton was not any memorable.

Here is what the BBC pundit noted:

“As usual with Chelsea, I don’t have a clue what to go for here.”

“If you look back at their results then they are on a seven-game unbeaten run in the league but they have drawn four of those matches because they always seem to shoot themselves in the foot.”

“Everton beat Mauricio Pochettino’s side at Goodison Park in December but only got their first league win of 2024 last week.”

“Beating Burnley was massive for them, but they need to follow that up by getting something at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are still a developing team so I am going to go with the Toffees to take a point.”

Only one point?

In dissecting Sutton’s insights, it becomes evident that Chelsea’s recent performances have been a double-edged sword. While their unbeaten run underscores their resilience and ability to compete against formidable opponents, their failure to clinch decisive victories reveals underlying vulnerabilities that could prove costly in the long run.

Moreover, Sutton’s nod towards Everton’s capacity to disrupt Chelsea’s momentum underscores the unpredictable nature of Premier League encounters. In a league renowned for its competitiveness and parity, no fixture can be taken for granted, and every opponent poses a unique challenge.

As Chelsea prepares to navigate the complexities of the Goodison Park showdown, they must confront their own inconsistencies while simultaneously adapting to Everton’s tactical approach. Pochettino’s strategic acumen will see itself put to the test as he seeks to orchestrate a cohesive performance from his squad amidst Everton’s home support.

Poch would hope for maximum points against Dyche.

For Chelsea fans, Sutton’s prediction serves as a sobering reminder of the arduous journey that lies ahead. While optimism and ambition fuel their aspirations for success, we must also be realistic. Chelsea have been a team that have been very inconsistent this season. Hopefully, we can get maximum points.
