Conor Gallagher lauded Chelsea’ ‘courage to keep battling’ following their dramatic 4-3 victory over Manchester United. He genuinely could not believe it when told it was the club’s first Premier League victory over United since 2017.
Cole Palmer was once again Chelsea’s hero, scoring twice in stoppage time to complete an astonishing hat-trick and give the hosts all three points in one of the most exciting games in recent memory.
Palmer’s late burst, with the final two goals coming just two minutes prior to the final whistle, left the visitors stunned, propelling the Blues to ninth in the rankings with eight games remaining in the top-flight season.
Gallagher had an interview after the match. Asked where the win ranks in his Chelsea career, Gallagher told the club’s official website:
“It’s got to be up there, hasn’t it? We’ve had a good few this season but that might top it. The boys were brilliant to show character to keep fighting for the goal and two goals in the end. Obviously you’ve got to give a lot of credit to Cole because he shows up when we need him most and he’s the man for us.”
Gallagher appreciates the start they had with a 2-0 lead early in the game. But it was disappointing how they let their lead go with such disorganized gameplay by the whole squad.
As soon as United scored their first goal, it had a psychological effect on the Chelsea squad and the team couldn’t handle the pressure and gave away two more goals to United, making the scoreline 3-2 in favor of United.
This season has been a rough one for the Blues. The club truly needed this victory, as it would help the squad build their confidence and boost their morale to get themselves ready for their future battles.
Although they won the clash, they do realize that this victory could’ve landed on either side as the teams did not play their best game. Thanks to Cole Palmer’s hat-trick, Chelsea sealed the win but the Blues still have a lot of areas to work on and a lot of room for improvement.
