A View From The Bridge

Chelsea teammate defends Noni Madueke for laughing after defeat vs Manchester City in FA Cup semis

Marc Cucurella says fans are reading too much into the incident of Noni Madueke laughing after FA Cup loss

Marc Cucurella has defended his Chelsea teammate Noni Madueke, who was pictured laughing with Jack Grealish in their FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester City. The Blues were narrowly defeated by the reigning FA Champions, despite being the better side throughout the game.

Following the final whistle, the camera captured emotional Thiago Silva, while behind him was Madueke, who was seen sharing some giggles with City star Grealish, which caught the attention of the fans, and the youngster was labelled tone deaf for that.

The footage didn’t go well with fans, and the supporters heavily criticised the Madueke, but Cucurella feels the fans have read too much into the incident and should instead ignore it and stop making a deal out of it, (h/t Football. London), Speaking to The Athletic, (subscription required), he said:

“It was out of context. A lot of players have different personalities. For sure, Noni was not happy because he always loves to win. He wants to win every game in training.’’

You can criticise Madueke for being tone-deaf, but if you are making a big issue out of it, then it doesn’t make sense, and Cucurella is right with his words. Silva was emotional because it was his last year, and he was hoping to win silverware before departing the club next season. Madueke is in his early years and has a long road ahead of his career.

It’s true that everyone interprets losing differently; even if you win the trophy, you still have to wake up the next day and resume your training. You must always be on the go because this is life. Furthermore, Madueke is still very young, has a bright future, and will undoubtedly win trophies in the Blues uniform.

So it will be better for the fans to avoid making a big deal out of it and support our young player and manager, and hopefully, we finish above the table to secure a European spot for the next season.
