Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez hopes to represent Argentina in Paris Olympics this year
As per Fernando Czyz via Mundo Albiceleste, Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez hopes to represent his country, Argentina, at the Paris Olympics this year and is in talks with the club to release him for the competition.
The former Benfica midfielder has already achieved one of the biggest prizes in football, the FIFA World Cup, when La Albiceleste defeated France on penalties in 2022. Since then, Fernandez has become one of the big names in football, which saw the Blues break the bank to sign the midfielder.
Since joining the Blues, the 23-year-old has already completed 58 games and recorded seven goals and five assists. Now the midfielder is expecting to represent his nation in the Olympics, which start on July 26 when the football season is over.
However, the Olympics will end on August 11, and during the month of August, the football season starts, so if the Blues allow the midfielder to leave for the Olympics, he won’t get sufficient rest for the season and will have to immediately join club action for the next campaign.
Despite injuries to other midfielders this season, Fernandez has appeared in every game and hasn’t had much time to recuperate. Sending the Argentine midfielder might therefore be risky if he doesn’t get sufficient rest before the new season begins.
He may also miss the pre-season tour to the USA, so Chelsea will have to make a big decision on his release to the national team for the Olympics. It’s a massive choice because we need our prominent player to rest, as this campaign he has been an impactful player from the middle of the pitch.
We witnessed what occurred to Barcelona’s best player Pedri, who competed in both the 2021 Olympics and the 2021 Euro. He played an absurd 76 games in total across all tournaments, which is bad and has impacted his level of fitness ever since as he is suffering from injuries more frequently.

So the Blues will have to be cautious with Fernandez, as he is an important midfielder for us, and we will have to make a prudent decision where he gets enough rest and also represents his nation at the Paris Olympics.
