A View From The Bridge

Chelsea star is closing in on Mason Mount for goal involvements since the 2021/22 season

From Manchester to Mastery: Cole Palmer and his stellar rise at Chelsea

It was a summer of change at Stamford Bridge, one where Cole Palmer has emerged as the Chelsea saviour and their best player by a mile.

Cole Palmer made a surprising decision to leave a treble-winning Manchester City for a process in West London as Todd Boehly & Co. paid a humongous £40 million transfer fee for his services. The move is proving to be a masterstroke, as the forward has excelled since joining the West London club.

The England international has been the best piece of business done by the club last summer, as the 21-year-old boasts 18 goals and 12 assists in 38 appearances in all competitions this season. This eclipses the six he scored at Manchester City, although the majority of his appearances under Pep Guardiola came from the bench.

Chasing Mount and more

Cole Palmer has been incredible for Chelsea.

While Palmer is enjoying the start to life since summer, Mason Mount is one player who left Stamford Bridge last summer but has yet to make the same immediate impact as Palmer. The Blues decided to cash in on Mason Mount last summer as Manchester United agreed an initial £55 million transfer fee for the Cobham product. His departure was a sorrowful one for the Chelsea faithful, as he has always been the golden academy product that represents opportunity and passion for the badge.

There were hopes among a section of fans that Mount would go on to fill his mentor, Frank Lampard, shoes at the Bridge. With one year left on his contract, the officials at Chelsea decided it was time to move on from the 25-year-old. Mount came through the ranks at Chelsea, scoring 33 goals in 195 games for the first team.

Mason Mount is a Chelsea man through and through…

Chelsea moved to a younger player in Cole Palmer, and this decision is reaping massive dividends in the context of the current season. As Mount continues to struggle to make an impact in Manchester, Palmer is already chasing Mount’s records at Chelsea.

The 21-year-old is only the second Chelsea player to be directly involved in more than twenty Premier League goals for Chelsea since the start of the 2022–22 season. He achieved the feat despite playing significantly fewer games than Mount.

More Chelsea news

Cole Palmer’s rise at Chelsea was always expected, but the immediate impact was far unforeseen. His goal-scoring abilities and consistent performances have piqued the interest of both fans and experts. This is just a start, though, to a beautiful journey wearing the Chelsea colors.
