Chelsea set to rival Manchester United for 29-year-old La Liga ace who has an injury-prone history

Chelsea and Manchester United could fight for Atletico Madrid centre-back Jose María Giménez

As per Fichajes, Chelsea and Manchester United will battle for Atletico Madrid centre-back Jose María Giménez in the summer window to bolster their defensive line. The Blues will be in need of a defender this season as they hope to find a replacement for Thiago Silva.

The Brazilian defender could leave the Blues next season when his contract with Chelsea expires. Silva’s exit will free up space for the club to sign another defender.

Chelsea have been one of the worst sides defensively this campaign, conceding one of the most goals in the Premier League, and it’s mainly due to our young defensive line, which has become prone to making mistakes at the back consistently.

It has become a pattern for us to concede right after we score, and this needs to be solved quickly if we want to win the remainder of the games this campaign. Gimenez has been one of the top defenders and offers experience at the back, which Chelsea needs the most. However, the main issue is with his injuries; he has been injury-prone with Atletico.

Injuries have been key to keeping the Atletico defender on the sidelines this season. He has missed 80 days in the 2023/24 season due to injuries, which puts Chelsea’s interest in him into question because we don’t want to sign more injury-prone players.

The Blues are already mired in injuries, and adding another player who is injury-prone doesn’t make sense, honestly. We need to look for a player who has a great record without injuries.

Chelsea keen on signing María Giménez in summer window.

So it will be wise to look for other options in the transfer market next season rather than spend money on an injury-prone player. United will also be wary of his injury record this campaign, considering they have suffered the same problems with their players this season.

So let’s hope Chelsea finds a better alternative with experience and no injury record in his playing career.
