A View From The Bridge

Chelsea gift Manchester United free pass to sign French star with ‘complicated’ £50-60m release clause

A major transfer boost for Manchester United after receiving a green flag from Chelsea to sign the French star with ‘complicated’ £50-60m clause

According to the sources, Crystal Palace star Michael Olise is open to a summer move to Old Trafford after Chelsea lost interest in him. Manchester United are keen to make a move for the French star if they agree to the asking price of Crystal Palace.

The 22-year-old has struggled with injuries this season, but he has consistently been one of Crystal Palace’s finest performers when healthy. Chelsea has no plans to revive their interest in Olise, and they will not compete with United for his signature this summer.

It is good news for the Red Devils, as they are now the leading candidates to sign the 22-year-old star this summer. United could shift several players at the end of the season. Olise, a versatile player, would help fill the creative void left by any or all of the upcoming departures.

Chelsea losing interest in the star

Last summer, Olise signed a new deal with Palace after the club threatened Chelsea with legal action. The Blues believed they had triggered a convoluted £35 million release clause in his previous contract, but this was not the case, so they backed away from a move, instead turning to Cole Palmer.

The Frenchman’s new deal is expected to have a release clause worth between £50 million and £60 million. However, like with his last contract, the condition remains legally problematic, and Palace is not yet ready to lose him.

Chelsea believes they do not have any requirements in Olise’s core positions, thanks in large part to Palmer’s outstanding performances, and are focusing on strengthening in other areas.

Chelsea does not require Olise

Cole Palmer is currently doing wonders in the midfield position for Chelsea, as he has scored 25 goals and provided 13 assists in 42 appearances for the Blues this season. Chelsea needs to prioritize other areas as they lack finishing ability, leading to missing a lot of chances recently.

More Chelsea news

Chelsea currently sit in ninth place in the Premier League standings, with this season being a lost cause for the Blues. It will be interesting to see how they will come back in the next season amid a lot of expected changes to the squad at the end of this summer.
