Chelsea are ready to make a move for Bundesliga star Dani Olmo
Chelsea FC’s eyes are set on Bundesliga sensation Dani Olmo (h/t football.london) as a potential addition to their attacking ranks in the upcoming summer transfer window. Amidst another season of inconsistency and underperformance in the Premier League, Chelsea is gearing up for a busy transfer window as they seek to revamp their squad.
Despite significant investments in players like Moises Caicedo, Christopher Nkunku, and Cole Palmer, Chelsea’s campaign under Mauricio Pochettino hasn’t unfolded as expected. With the club currently languishing in ninth place in the Premier League table with 44 points, there’s a sense of urgency to secure European qualification with six games remaining in the season.
The pursuit of Olmo signals Chelsea’s ambition to strengthen their attacking options and inject fresh talent into the squad. The Bundesliga star’s potential arrival could provide a much-needed boost to Chelsea’s offensive firepower and bolster their chances of success in both domestic and European competitions.
German journalist Christian Falk claims that Dani Olmo, the playwright for RB Leipzig, is thinking about relocating to England. The Spaniard heavily predicted as a transfer to the Premier League, and that transfer may finally occur this year. Speaking in his column for Caught Offside (h/t Football London), he said:
“Olmo is currently looking at England. His release clause would not be a hurdle for the rich Premier League clubs. The hottest lead at the moment leads to Manchester City. Olmo is on the list at the Sheikh Club.”
“But City has competition: Tottenham also has their eye on Olmo, as do Manchester United and Chelsea. However, both clubs would probably not be a good choice at the moment due to their sporting imbalance.”
Olmo’s £51 million release clause at Leipzig presents a tempting opportunity for Chelsea in the summer transfer window. However, given Chelsea’s precarious financial situation and their proximity to breaching PSR rules, splurging on a high-priced player like Olmo may not be the wisest move at this stage.
Instead, Chelsea is focusing on balancing their books by offloading some of their existing players. Names like Conor Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah, and Armando Broja are reportedly on the chopping block as the club looks to generate funds through player sales. While Lewis Hall has already been transferred to Newcastle, Chelsea’s efforts to streamline their squad and trim their wage bill continue.
By parting ways with surplus players, Chelsea aims to alleviate financial pressure and ensure compliance with PSR regulations, thereby positioning themselves for a more sustainable future. While the allure of signing talents like Dani Olmo is undeniable, Chelsea must prioritize financial prudence and stability in their decision-making process during this critical period.

Cole Palmer and Conor Gallagher are the current contenders for Mauricio Pochettino’s No. 10 spot. Gallagher’s contract expires next year, though, and Palmer primarily stays up front and on the right flank at times.
If Olmo is to leave Leipzig at the end of the season, which now looks very possible, then Manchester City are likely to be the club that the 25-year-old joins. Chelsea face a real challenge, then, to land Olmo’s signature this summer. The Blues are under pressure to sell a few of their players as they need to balance their accounts before the deadline of June 30. With Conor Gallagher potentially gone, someone appropriate needs to be in the club to fill in the spot. Olmo could be the right one to fill Gallagher’s spot.
