Axel Disasi believes he and Levi Colwill are building something special at Chelsea
Axel Disasi has been one of Chelsea’s top players this season. The Frenchman has taken to life at Stamford Bridge like a fish to water and continues to soar in Blue.
With Thiago Silva likely to depart the Bridge at the end of the season, Chelsea need a new leader at the back. At 26, Disasi is entering his prime and could very well prove to be an able successor to the celebrated Brazilian.
But as they say, good things come in twos and the Frenchman can only be as good as his defensive partner at the heart of the Blues’ defence. This is where Levi Colwill, the Cobham graduate enters.
Speaking exclusively to the club’s official website, Disasi has revealed his admiration for the 21-year-old. The duo appear to be striking up a chord not just on the field but off it as well. Speaking on Colwill, this is what he had to say:
“Levi is so good you know. He’s someone that I like to joke with in training or in the locker room, but when we are out on the pitch, we feel the same energy together.”
The duo are still in their infancy as far as the partnership goes but there are promising signs. Disasi expresses his faith that the duo will come good the more they play together. After all, as we saw against Manchester City, the signs are clear for all to see.
“The game against Man City was the perfect picture of this. We enjoyed celebrating tackles and blocking shots. I hope that in the future this connection will be great.”
Centre-back duos with excellent chemistry often are partners in crime on the field. After all, even the two Gabriels at Arsenals took time to gel before developing into a formidable rearguard today.
Colwill and Disasi have faith in each others abilities and it is the first step towards them discovering their true potential as a duo. A strong attack wins us matches but an unbeatable defence lays the foundations for a title charge. It would appear we are in safe hands going forward.
