Aston Villa wants to reinforce their left-back area and have earmarked signing of Chelsea star Marc Cucurella
According to TeamTalk, Aston Villa are looking to reinforce their fullback position and have shown interest in Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella. The defender who joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion for £63m last season hasn’t been convincing so far.
Cucurella’s life at Chelsea has been mired with injuries and inconsistent performance; nevertheless, under Mauricio Pochettino, the Spanish fullback seems to have found his form after being in the starting lineup since returning from his ankle injury.
Villains, who are enjoying an impressive season under Unai Emery, will be hoping to secure a spot in the CA spot in the Champions League next season. They will need an elite squad to compete in that event, and Cucurella is now one of their alternatives to shore up their left-back position.
Aston Villa will have to add more depth to their squad if they wish to compete in the Champions League next season. They have reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Conference League, and Emery could end the season with a trophy.
Chelsea could be open to selling the 25-year-old, as they are hoping to make a profit through the exit of fringe players in the summer window. Cucurella seems to have returned on time and has been decent, and if Emery’s side is ready to splash money on the fullback, the Blues will let him leave for financial reasons.
But first, the team needs to find a backup option next season because they will only left with Ben Chilwell available and Levi Colwill, and even Chilwell hasn’t played consistently and has missed much of the season due to injuries.

Given that both of our left backs have experienced repeated injury setbacks this season, Chelsea should search for a more reliable backup option as well as a player without a history of injuries. It is now unknown what the Blues will decide regarding Cucurella’s future and who might have an opportunity to play for the Champions League team the following year.
