“We need to improve”- Chelsea star sends clear message to teammates despite win vs Newcastle United

Marc Cucurella feels there is still room for development for Chelsea stars

Despite Chelsea performing well in the 3-2 victory over Newcastle United on Monday, Marc Cucurella has held onto the idea that the team still has room for growth. The match against the Magpies gave Mauricio Pochettino another opportunity to mitigate the increasing strain on the Blues.

Even though the Blues defeated the Tyneside with a sterling performance, their chances of qualifying for European play are dwindling as they currently sit in 11th place in the Premier League.

If they fail to finish in seventh or eighth place, then the Blues will go another season without European competition, and the West Londoners’ only way of progressing to the European tournament will be through winning the FA Cup.

However, Pochettino still has enough games to change the destiny of the club this term. Fullback Cucurella believes the Blues have more room for improvement, as he said via the Chelsea website:

‘‘I think the team played really well. We dominated the game, but we conceded two easy goals, and I think we need to improve on this. We deserved the win, and I’m very happy for the team.’’

Our squad has a very high ceiling, and Pochettino is aware of the talent this roster boasts. But it’s not always the smooth process we see with managers when they inherit a completely different squad that doesn’t suit their system, and this is the case with the Argentine at Chelsea. Despite our win over Eddie Howe’s team, we need to keep improving, and surely we will reach the full potential of this side maybe next season.

Chelsea star Marc Cucurella returned to action in the Newcastle game after an ankle injury.

It’s part of the process, and even Pep Guardiola had to overhaul the Manchester City squad when he arrived there and signed players who could gel with his system. If we want to make rapid progress, then we should look for players next summer who will fit the Pochettino system.

If not, we may have to wait one or two seasons for this team to establish their strengths and persuade fans to continue backing them, as it isn’t going to be an easy rebuilding of the club.
