“We have too many in this squad that need help”- Pochettino on Chelsea having too many young players

Mauricio Pochettino points Chelsea squad problem and feels club has too many young players who need nurturing

Mauricio Pochettino explains that Chelsea’s young squad needs time and individual nurturing to become Premier League-level players, and he feels there are too many such players at the club who need careful growth.

The Argentine manager is presently in charge of the Premier League’s youngest team this season, which has led to unconvincing results. Pochettino, 52, has a history of developing young players; at his previous clubs, he has carried out this role effectively.

Doing so at Chelsea hasn’t gone well with the fans, who feel the club has been subpar with their performance as they languish 11th in the Premier League, but Pochettino has opened up about why that is the reason. Speaking to the media ahead of the Burnley game, he said via Standard Sport:

“They all need time and different lengths of time. I was talking about a month and a half ago, and too many things happened during the first days that he started to train with us. We have experience managing these types of young kids. We have too many in this squad that need help. They need to perform for us.’’

The manager must provide young players with individualised guidance; otherwise, their development would stall, as has been the case at Chelsea. There are such players in the team who possess the innate ability to succeed at the club, but they will also require direction from the management to move on the right track for their smooth development.

Mauricio Pochettino feels Chelsea have too many young players who need nurturing.

However, Pochettino has so many young players at the club it’s certainly not easy to help them grow seamlessly. That is where experienced players play a key role in helping these young players during the games. Their leadership on and off the field aid them in eliminating their flaws in the game.

We have a great squad, and these young players have a high ceiling to succeed at Chelsea, but it will take time, patience, and backing from the fans. Within next season, we should have a squad to contend for the top four.
