Chelsea and their injury problems have only gotten worse, which has contributed to the Blues’ poor form this season. Even Mauricio Pochettino cannot stress enough that he has been affected by injuries to a great extent.
In their 2-2 draw with Brentford, the Blues received fresh injury setbacks after injuries to Ben Chilwell, Levi Colwill, and Conor Gallagher. Although Chilwell and Colwill’s returns remain doubtful, the Blues have been handed some solace as Gallagher is likely to face Newcastle United.
Pochettino confirmed the midfielder didn’t train with the squad ahead of the match as he suffered from an illness. Speaking to the media before the game, the Argentine said via Football. London:
“Gallagher has not trained because he has a virus. He is still not here. In the last three days of training, he has not been here. We will see on Saturday or tomorrow if he can be with the possibility of training.’’
We notice a decline in performance and energy, as well as a decrease in ball retention, whenever Gallagher isn’t starting the game. He is quite adaptable this season, which is definitely something to be excited about. When comparing his performance from the previous season to the current one, there is a significant shift in performance, which is worthy of recognition.
Pochettino will take precautions with his illness, as they don’t want him to relapse, and if he is not fit, then we can have options to play. Cesare Casadei can be used in his position, who has similar attributes to the England international.
Newcastle have utilised their physical flair to outmuscle their opponents in the air, thus we need more physically strong players against them. Gallagher also contributes such quality to the team. If not, Pochettino will have to use the other options or even have to employ players out of position. Hopefully, he is well enough to play in the game.
