PL rivals’ interest in Chelsea superstar ‘hasn’t gone anywhere’, says Romano; contract situation still unclear

Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea haven’t started contract talks with Conor Gallagher

Fabrizio Romano has updated on the Chelsea and the Conor Gallagher contract situation on Caught Offside and reveals the club is in a dilemma regarding the England international deal. The Blues are open to selling the 23-year-old next summer and have slapped a £50 million price on him.

Tottenham Hotspur have been credited with an interest, but the North Londoners have yet to approach the Blues for the midfielder, though the academy player wants to fight for his spot and remain at his childhood club.

Due to their financial situation, Chelsea will be forced to market academy players to raise money for the upcoming season, which is considered pure profit. The Blues’ spending has reached a financial limit and more outlays without making any profit could see them break the Premier League sustainability guideline.

Given that Gallagher has blossomed substantially as a player under Mauricio Pochettino, it will be bittersweet to see him go. The midfield player has been trusted by the Argentine manager in each game.

The Blues believe that selling him will net them quite a bit of money though. The supporters have come to admire Gallagher, so it will not sit well with them if he is sold. The Blues are mainly going to offload the academy, though it remains uncertain as other players could also be shown the exit gate.

He’s made it apparent that he wants to stay and play on, even if that means competing for a spot. But before we decide on his future, we should prioritise extending his contract.

Chelsea are yet to start talks with Conor Gallagher over contract extension.

We also don’t have much choice because the club is in desperate need of making a profit, and some names could be sacrificed to do so. It will be terrible to see the England international leave next summer, but hopefully, the player will first agree to extend his deal with the club.

Selling him to his rival in London would be an awful move that would greatly infuriate the fans and affect their relationship with the board. Let’s hope Chelsea makes a smart choice on Gallagher’s future.
