A View From The Bridge

Chelsea on alert as report outlines Thomas Tuchel’s three ‘dream’ destinations after Bayern Munich exit

Outgoing Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel eyes a return to Chelsea FC

It was that phase under the German tactician that the Blues were most consistent in, in the last few years. Thomas Tuchel reached multiple cup finals with Chelsea and won the UEFA Champions League. Chelsea were largely ambitious and driven in the league as well.

What is amazing is that Tuchel eyes a return to the Premier League. Currently in charge of Bayern Munich from where he’ll step down at the end of the current campaign, Tuchel already has his plans set for what’s to come. According to The Sun, Tuchel believes he has unfinished business in the English top tier and eyes a return to Stamford Bridge. Moreover, he also shows interest in taking over at Manchester United, and dreams of a move to Catalonia, managing FC Barcelona.

This is a welcome scenario for Chelsea, a dream come true of sorts. Tuchel’s record at Chelsea speaks for itself. 100 games, 63 wins, H19 draws and 2.08 PPM is a testament to how the squad grew after the Frank Lampard era. To be fair, it was Lampard who laid the foundation of Tuchel’s success, but getting results is a different thing altogether, and the only Chelsea manager in the last four years to manage that consistently was Tuchel.

Homecoming?

Todd Boehly’s takeover was completed in May 2022 and Tuchel’s sack followed closely in September of the same year. While the want to introduce change and ideas of your own is very good very nice, Clearlake Capital’s vision for the club has not resonated with the fans whatsoever.

Instead, what they should have done during that transitional phase was bestow Tuchel with trust and financial backing. His success on the pitch surely justified the owners’ backing but it was unfortunate how he left the club, the circumstances were not ideal.

However, a return to the club might not lie in the best interests of all parties involved. Chelsea again find themselves in a transitional phase, with a squad much different than what it was under Tuchel. Mauricio Pochettino, while has struggled for consistency, needs time and trust. We should not make the same mistake with the Argentine tactician that we made a few seasons ago with TT.

Show Poch some patience, do not repeat the same mistake with him, Todd.

His interest in joining other clubs does not bother us, but we can only hope he steers as far away from Manchester United as possible. Rivals getting a good and capable manager is surely not a good sight for any club.

While his time at Bayern Munich has gone far from ideal, we can only wish TT the best for whatever it is that lies in his future. Hopefully, he can return to Chelsea someday, but under the current circumstances, sacking Poch will mean that Boehly and Co. have made the same mistake in the space of just under 18 months.
