Moises Caicedo registers an assist as Chelsea secure a 3-2 win over Leeds United
Moises Caicedo displayed a top performance in Chelsea FC’s 3-2 win over Leeds United in the FA Cup fifth round, which confirmed their spot in the quarterfinals of the competition, where they will meet Leicester City.
The 22-year-old came older heavy criticism following the Blues’ 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final but bounced with an impressive display against Leeds United to help the side secure a quarter-final berth.
However, the Ecuadorian midfielder started the game with a nightmare error after he was dispossessed in his own box, which resulted in a Leeds goal in the eighth minute through Mateo Joseph. Thankfully, he was able to pull up his socks and up his game then spiral.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder made amends instantly and provided an assist after seven minutes when he found Nicolas Jackson, who levelled the score. Chelsea continued to search for another goal and found one before the break when Mykhaylo Mudryk swept Raheem Sterling’s pull-back into the bottom corner.
But Leeds once again pulled another back, and it was the same goalscorer, Joseph, in the 59th minute. After that, for a long time, both sides continued their quest for a winning goal, and the Blues deservingly got their winner when Conor Gallagher blasted the ball past Leeds goalkeeper in the 90th minute.
The eyes were mainly on Caicedo, who made a costly mistake in the eight minutes at the start of the game, which led to the Leeds goal. But Caicedo kept his head up and redeemed himself instantly with an assist. After the game, the midfielder’s statistics were enough to justify his solid performance, as he made 10 ball recoveries and won four tackles.
Caicedo’s efforts occasionally go unnoticed, and he is underappreciated. He is a complete midfielder at an early age, but he still has a few imperfections that he will work out in games. It’s his first season at a club, who are dealing with uncertainties and it takes time to adapt to such situations.
