Mauricio Pochettino says every player deserves to be blamed after Chelsea drew 2-2 vs Burnley
Mauricio Pochettino expressed frustration with his players after Chelsea conceded the second goal against 10-man Burnley in a 2-2 draw. Despite facing a numerical disadvantage, the visitors twice equalized to share points with the Clarets.
Chelsea initially took the lead with Cole Palmer converting a penalty kick, but Burnley responded swiftly with a superb volley from Josh Cullen just after halftime. Palmer restored Chelsea’s lead with a well-taken finish, only for Burnley to level again through O’Shea’s header from a corner.
The draw left both sides settling for a shared result, with Pochettino left disappointed by his team’s inability to hold onto their lead.
However, the Argentine manager felt his side should have been deserving of a win and lamented every Chelsea player in his post-match press conference. Speaking to the media, he further said via Football.London:
‘’The way we concede the first goal, they have one less. They need to realise we need to increase our work levels. It’s not to blame the players; it’s to blame everyone. We need to be tougher when we have the players. We need to be a team, find better communication, and be more competitive.’’
Chelsea supporters may be growing frustrated with the recurring pattern of conceding goals immediately after scoring. The team’s tendency to give up goals right after scoring has become a frustrating routine that seems to persist, causing disappointment among fans.
During the press conference, he expressed his frustration, which has become a recurring theme in every game. The frustration stems from situations like the match against Leicester City, where despite scoring two goals before halftime, the team conceded early in the second half. The lack of chemistry between Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile in defence highlighted the need for improvement in crucial moments of the game.

When Disasi and Badiashile play together, there’s no structure at the back. When they play for us, our defence seems never strong. It always appears to be a disaster in defence. Although Pochettino fielded a fantastic team, our players once again missed a lot of opportunities. That is the exact narrative of Chelsea’s season thus far.
