A View From The Bridge

Mauricio Pochettino answers if he is thinking of quitting Chelsea: “Ask the players”

Mauricio Pochettino says players believe in him and he has no intention of leaving Chelsea soon

Mauricio Pochettino has made his stance clear on the Chelsea job and has no intention to leave the club. The Argentine manager also feels he is being backed by fans and the players. The connection between players and the manager will only deteriorate if they don’t believe the manager is leading the team on the proper path.

Pochettino is patient and believes that the players and the board have complete faith in his ability to steer the ship, even though he is facing mounting heat to make a change. After last week’s 2-2 draw with Brentford, supporters heckled the Argentine manager, expressing their disenchantment with him.

The Blues will now confront Newcastle United in another important game for the Argentine to ease the pressure and bring calmness to the fans. Before the match, he had press conferences and was asked if he was considering quitting as Chelsea manager. He said via Fabrizio Romano:

“No, no, no. Why? Never. You need to ask the players. But you can say that the way they behave, it’s clear they are behind us.”.

It is too soon to ask this question.

Given the pressure he is currently under, the inquiries won’t come as a surprise. He is aware that the future doesn’t appear promising and that if the team keeps producing subpar results and doesn’t make any changes, things will only get more dire, which might eventually reach an impasse for the supporters.

Mauricio Pochettino says he has the full support of the players.

Meanwhile, we can also only fault players in the games because they aren’t fully developed, and making mistakes is inevitable for such a young squad. But how they are mentally prepared and what they hear from the manager are mainly on Pochettino.

But, if the players are having trouble adjusting to his approach, they will doubt his management and cease to back him. Fortunately, this hasn’t happened because our players have thrived under him, even though their susceptibility to rookie errors has cost the team. Once we rectify that and our goalscoring issues then we will have a potent squad.
