A View From The Bridge

Manchester City star Kyle Walker names the Chelsea superstar he ‘loved’ playing against

Kyle Walker reveals he liked facing Chelsea star Raheem Sterling

Manchester City star Kyle Walker named Raheem Sterling, whom he liked facing whenever Chelsea and City met in any competition. Sterling and Walker were teammates at City, but the 29-year-old joined Chelsea in 2022.

However, both have also faced each other when Walker was at Tottenham Hotspur and Sterling at Liverpool. And after coming to City, both England internationals enjoyed a trophy-laden spell at City.  Sterling joined City in 2015, while Walker joined City in 2017. Since then, both have won four and five Premier League trophies, respectively.

Meanwhile, the former Tottenham Hotspur star has continued his time at City; Sterling left for Chelsea, and both this season have faced each other twice, and the games have ended in a draw. But there is a stark difference in both club’s performances this year: Chelsea are aiming to qualify for Europe before the season ends, while City are vying for their fourth Premier League title in four years.

But Walker’s favourite player has been his former teammate Sterling and In his recent interview with Rio Ferdinand, the England fullback revealed why he liked facing Sterling via Football.London:

“I used to love playing against Raz [Sterling]. I used to love it. Not in a disrespectful way; I knew he was a good player, and if I did well against him, people would appreciate what I’m doing.’’

Sterling has been a nightmare for defenders, and when he is in form, he always turns up and becomes a headache for the fullbacks. In both games against City, he displayed one of the best performances. In their 1-1 draw with City, he was on the scoresheet, and his goal came when he cut Walker inside before curling the ball.

While Sterling has had successful careers at both Liverpool and City, but has experienced more success with Pep Guardiola, having won more titles and advanced to the 2021 Champions League final. Walker, on the other hand, turned into an instant hit after joining City and discovered his form under Guardiola.

Walker remained at City, but Sterling is in his second season at Chelsea, where the attacker is going through a torrid time. Hopefully, he will play an important role in bringing Chelsea back to winning ways soon.
