23-year-old Mykhailo Mudryk, ever since his transfer to Chelsea in the January window of 2023, has not had it all gaga during his time at Stamford Bridge. Following an impressive debut against Liverpool wherein he skinned James Milner, Mudryk has struggled to put up displays which secured a transfer to Chelsea in the first place.
Last night was a magnificent display from the former Shakhtar Donetsk man, who scored one of Chelsea’s goals against Newcastle in a 3-2 win. While the scoreline might come across as misleading, the Magpies got their second goal only in added time and is not a pure reflection of how well the Blues played against them. Even though Eddie Howe’s side enjoyed more possession, Chelsea hit them on the counter in trademark Mauricio Pochettino style and secured three vital points in their quest for a European spot.
Coming off the bench for Raheem Sterling in the 71st minute, Mudryk caught the Newcastle backline off guard, as he dribbled past the lot and round the keeper to slot his goal into an empty net. This marked his second goal in his last three appearances.
Speaking of his positive impact coming on from the bench, here is what Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher had to say via BBC:
“I am pleased he scored, it has not been easy for him [at Chelsea].”
“I saw him in the Champions League a few years ago and I though there was a player there – hopefully this is the start of something.”
Carragher’s remarks echo a sense of optimism for Mudryk’s future and the potential impact he could have on the team.
Having witnessed Mudryk’s talent firsthand in the Champions League, Carragher believes that the recent goal could signify the beginning of a positive trajectory for the Ukrainian midfielder. With 29 appearances across all competitions this season, Mudryk has already demonstrated versatility and adaptability, amassing six goals and three assists.
As Mudryk continues to adapt and develop within the Chelsea setup, his recent performance serves as a testament to his determination and resilience. Supported by his teammates and coaching staff, he has the opportunity to establish himself as a key contributor for Chelsea in the seasons to come, building upon the positives displayed in his latest outing against Newcastle.
While Mudryk’s journey at Chelsea has had its ups and downs, his recent performances offer a promising sign of his potential impact on the team. With determination and perseverance, he can continue to progress and establish himself as a valuable asset for Chelsea in the seasons ahead.
