A View From The Bridge

“Far from that”- Arsenal legend implies scoreline vs Leicester City was undeserved for Chelsea

Martin Keown feels Chelsea 4-2 scoreline against Leicester didn’t look convincing

Former Arsenal player Martin Keown wasn’t convinced by the Chelsea scoreline following the Blues 4-2 win against Leicester City in the FA Cup quarterfinal. However, one can say, though, we found it difficult to withstand the pressure of the visitors when they tied the score, but we pulled through and proved to be the superior team in the game.

Chelsea started the game on the front foot when Nicolas Jackson’s excellent hold-up play in the opposition box found Marc Cucurella, who made a run to the far post and tapped the Senegalese pass. The Blues later won the penalty when Raheem Sterling was brought down, and the 29-year-old decided to take the responsibility but squandered the big chance.

However, the England international made amends when he found his compatriot Cole Palmer at the near post, who tapped the ball, giving Chelsea a solid lead going into halftime. Following the interval, Leicester came on as a changed side who took no time to level the scoring, thanks to goals from Axel Disasi (an own goal) and Stephy Mavididi (a curler in the 62nd minute).

It appeared another long night for the Blues, but substitutes Carney Chukwuemeka and Noni Madueke produced two stellar goals to propel the Blues into the semi-finals of the FA Cup. But Keown wasn’t convinced by Chelsea’s scoreline, and he further said via BBC:

‘’The scoreline makes it look comfortable, but it was far from that; they got there in the end.’’

Chelsea will next face Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-final.

To some extent, we can agree with Keown’s comments on Chelsea’s scoreline. We always struggle to contain the pressure of the opposition, which is one of the flaws this side needs to rectify if it wants to compete with top teams going forward. Disasi’s own goal was the cause of their comeback, and they befittingly managed to come from behind. The most crucial facet of this game, though, was the way we maintained resilience and continued to fight for the winning goal.

Maybe this wasn’t a thorough means to come out on top of the game. We wouldn’t have needed to start from square one against Leicester in the last moments of the game if we hadn’t blown so many opportunities in the first half. In the end, we got the job done and secured our place in the semi-finals of the tournament.
