Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has revealed he wants to return to management after getting sacked by AS Roma this season. The Portuguese manager has been linked with a job at his former club, Chelsea.
The Blues have already started shortlisting potential Mauricio Pochettino replacements if things go worse this season. After a 2-2 draw with Brentford, fans showed their dissatisfaction by whistling at the Argentine manager.
Chelsea will host Newcastle United next and will attempt to climb out of 11th place in the Premier League. For the former Southampton boss, things can get more detrimental if they lose again.
However, the Blues aren’t short on options to replace the 52-year-old at the helm, and Mourinho, who is already looking for another job, could find a way to return to Chelsea. The former Real Madrid manager confirmed he is looking to make a return. Speaking to Sky Sports via Football. London, he said:
“I hope to be back managing soon. Roma was great to get to two European finals in two years, and that’s hard. But now I have to wait for the right opportunity. I want to work tomorrow if possible, but I don’t want to make the wrong decision.”
The choice to bring Mourinho back to Chelsea will be quite strange. It’s quite unlikely that anything will function under him. He has a capable manager and can turn the club’s fortunes at any time. However, because every manager needs a group of players who can accelerate the process and since he will be taking over a youthful team, it is highly doubtful that he will produce results right away.
It will be better for the club to move on from the nostalgia and focus on the present; we cannot always chant the names of our former managers and owners. Things have been slow under Pochettino, but we have improved, though, from Chelsea’s fans’ perspective, things have been gradual under Pochettino. And it’s understandable because they’ve been spoilt with success by previous owners, making it difficult for them to adjust to new circumstances.
