Enzo Fernandez thanks River Plate for custom jerseys for two Chelsea teammates: “Here we have 2 more fans”

Enzo Fernandez posts a story on Instagram of Chelsea teammates Nicolas Jackson and Marc Cucurella holding River Plate jersey

Enzo Fernandez thanked his former club, River Plate, for sending two personalised shirts to Chelsea team-mates Nicolas Jackson and Marc Cucurella. River Plate is one of the most famous clubs in Argentina and have produced many talented young players, such as Fernandez, Radamel Falcao, Gonzalo Higuain and Julian Alvarez.

The club now has more fans after the Argentine posted a story on Instagram of Chelsea teammates Jackson and Cucurella posing with the shirt with the caption, “Thank you very much, River Plate. Here we have two more fans.”

The former midfield player for Benfica is a graduate of the River Plate Academy. After making 53 appearances for the senior team scoring 12 goals and registering 10 assists, Fernandez went on loan to Defensa y Justicia. In 2022, Benfica signed the player, and he spent some time there before Chelsea came calling and acquired him for a world record sum.

Jackson and Cucurella were back on the pitch ahead of the Newcastle United game, and the former Villarreal striker was on the scoresheet, spearheading the Blues to a 3-2 win. Meanwhile, the Spanish fullback started the game for the first time since picking up an ankle injury in December.

The Blues’ win against the Magpies saw the club establish another record as the West Londoners haven’t lost their home Premier League game in March since 2001 (2-4 vs. Sunderland), going unbeaten in 38 such matches since then (W32 D6).

Enzo Fernandez appeared 53 times for his old club River Plate.

The Mauricio Pochettino side will hope to build on their win against the Magpies and will next face Leicester City in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup. Securing a Champions League spot looks doubtful, but through the FA Cup trophy, we can secure a place in the Europa League.

The likes of Fernandez, Jackson, and Cucurella will have a big role to play this season with other Chelsea teammates and will hope to end the campaign on a better note than the previous season. Under Mauricio Pochettino, the players have shown indications of steady growth, and if they continue to play well, we can possibly win a domestic cup competition.
