A View From The Bridge

Daniel Farke ‘congratulates’ Chelsea after win vs Leeds United but says his team dominated 2nd half

Daniel Farke agrees with Chelsea win but says Leeds United dominated the second half

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke provided his verdict on Chelsea’s 3-2 victory against his side, feeling that Leeds outperformed the Blues in the second half. Despite this, the West Londoners secured their place in the FA Cup quarterfinals and are set to face Leicester City.

The game began with Leeds breaking the deadlock in just eight minutes, but Chelsea quickly responded with a low strike from Nicolas Jackson in the 15th minute.

In the second half, Chelsea took the lead for the first time when Mykhaylo Mudryk swept in a pass from Raheem Sterling in the 37th minute. However, Leeds managed to level the score in the 59th minute through Mateo Joseph.

Leeds proved to be the stronger side in the second half, capitalizing on Chelsea’s mistakes and securing an equalizer. Both teams pushed for a winning goal throughout the game.

The Yorkshire side had opportunities to take the lead, with Antony missing two chances before substitute Gallagher scored the match-winning goal in the 90th minute. Despite the outcome, Farke maintained that his side performed better in the second half, as he conveyed to the BBC.

“I am very proud of this performance, but congratulations to Chelsea; they were clinical today. In the second half, we had more possession, more shots at goal, and more expected goals.’’

Farke’s assessment of the game is true because Leeds were better, and their 2024 form means they haven’t lost a game (11 wins and 1 draw) until this game against Chelsea. While they did give us a scare more than once, the Blues’ quality eventually shone bright at the end.

We secured the win due to our clinical finishing. Despite strong performances, our ability to convert chances in front of goal has been inconsistent this season. However, our overall display in this match was improved.

It was crucial for us to secure a win in this game, especially after the disappointment of the Carabao Cup final loss to Liverpool. Given the mental and physical fatigue from the extended game time in that match, the performance tonight was understandably affected. However, the most important thing was to come away with a victory, which we managed to achieve. Moving forward, we aim to improve in the upcoming weekend and subsequent games.
