Club chief explains what he has heard about Thiago Silva’s future at Chelsea

Thiago Silva set to depart Chelsea for Fluminense return

Thiago Silva has been linked with a move away from Chelsea after joining the club in 2020. His contract at the Bridge will run out at the end of the season.

The former PSG defender has not played for the Blues in the Premier League since February 12, despite having a tally of 29 appearances in all competitions this season and being one of the first names on the team sheet for long stretches in his time in West London. Although it appears that his time at Stamford Bridge is coming to an end.

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva is expected to leave Chelsea at the end of the ongoing campaign.

The Brazilian defender will not renew his contract with Chelsea, according to the president of Fluminense, Mario Bittencourt, as they aim to bring the 40-year-old to Rio de Janeiro. Thiago Silva has been in touch with the Brazilian giants every week as he prepares to call it a day to his time in West London, per ESPN Brasil. He was made aware of a route back to Brazil and playing again for Fluminense during those conversations.

Silva made 97 appearances during his time wearing the Fluminense badge in his early career, scoring nine goals during that time, and returning to familiar surroundings appears to be an appealing proposition at the conclusion of his career after falling behind in the pecking order in Chelsea’s backline.

Thiago Silva is in the final six months of his contract with Chelsea and can freely negotiate with overseas clubs.

“I’m very good friends with Thiago, I talk to him about a lot of things and not just about coming to Fluminense. We don’t have anything at the moment, but we’re very keen for him to come home,”

Bittencourt told Globo Esporte.

“From what we’ve heard, his contract with Chelsea runs out in the middle of the year and he won’t renew it. I think that, in Brazil, he wants to play for Fluminense. As soon as he’s cleared at Chelsea, we’ll get back to him. And he’ll help us in this important year.”

Thiago Silva is ready to put an end to his four-year stay at Stamford Bridge and by the words of Bittencourt, it looks like his next destination is anchored barring any late change of heart.
