Chelsea are set to receive a financial compensation aggregating to £4 million as Armando Broja is not named in the starting lineup for Fulham in their Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur.
Fulham brought in the 22-year-old for a season-long loan in the Winter transfer window from their London rivals Chelsea. The Cottagers were initially told to pay £50 million to acquire the Albanian forward’s services on a permanent basis but eventually, the clubs settled on a loan agreement with the fee directly dependent on the number of games Broja plays, with the Craven Cottage side refusing to bow to the Blues’ £5 million loan fee demand.
According to a report by Daily Mail, Fulham had agreed to pay an £750,000 initial fee for Broja which rises to £4 million if the 22-year-old starts lower than 60 per cent of their remaining games in the season.
There are only ten games left for the conclusion of the Premier League campaign and Armando Broja is yet to make a single start for Marco Silva’s side. Fulham, at the time of Broja’s signing, had 16 games to go for them to call it a season. Meaning if he doesn’t start against Tottenham today, which he hasn’t, it will be impossible for them to meet the threshold.
Broja has only appeared four times wearing a Fulham badge, all from the bench since swapping clubs in London. He has yet to feature more than 16 minutes in a single outing.
Chelsea would have hoped that Broja’s loan would help them fuel the transfer price if he were to hit a goal-scoring touch, but that has not been the case. The Blues will look to figure out his future at Cobham this summer.
