Chelsea handed big blow in pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres who hasn’t ruled out leaving Sporting CP
Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres has been in the eyes of many European clubs after his recent exploits for the Portuguese club. The striker has been in terrific form, and the likes of Chelsea are keen on signing a forward of his calibre.
The Blues are leading the race to sign the 24-year-old, but they will have to shell out a €100 million (£85 million) release clause, and the Portuguese team will reject anything less than that.
However, the former Coventry striker hasn’t ruled out a move from Sporting CP and provided a coy reply on his future. The Swedish is aware that clubs are interested in signing him, and in the next summer window, he will have to make a big decision on his future.
But Gyokere’s recent comments indicate he doesn’t rule out leaving the Portuguese club and is relaxed about his future. Speaking to the media quoted by Metro via Manchester Evening News, he further said:
“It’s a sign that I’ve been performing well, but it’s not something I take too seriously. It’s just speculation, but it’s good and fun to talk about. We’ll see what happens in the summer; I don’t know what will happen. But I really like sports, and I don’t feel stressed at all about what’s to come.”
Gyokeres will be a coup.
Gyokeres would obviously refrain from stating for sure that he wants to leave Sporting CP in the summer. He knows he’s got potential and is aware many clubs want to sign him. His best chance to win further major prizes would be to join a team that can contend for European trophies. Thus, anything can occur during the upcoming summer.
It is admirable how much Gyokeres has matured since joining Sporting CP and transforming into a lethal attacker. The centre-forward has been on fire for the Portuguese club and doesn’t appear to be slowing down, netting goals left and right.

He is a big difference-maker and adds so much quality to the attacking team. He can use his booth feet when shooting and drop deep to help the team build-up. He has excellent box presence and is always present at the right time to score goals. Chelsea needs this type of striker with great box awareness and a killer with his goalscoring instincts.
