As per the Guardian, Chelsea fans have warned the board that there could be protests related to the club’s ownership and new rules implemented, which have affected the fans after hikes in ticket prices, the cost of merchandise and travel to games, and a lack of communication from the board.
In a letter sent to Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali this month, the Chelsea Supporters have made their feelings clear and aren’t happy with how the club is run by Boehly and CO. Meanwhile, the on-field issues have continued, and the fans are now voicing their frustration with the club’s mismanagement off the field.
Before the takeover, Bohely’s ownership promised they would communicate with the fans and try to explore every commercial avenue to bring Chelsea’s spending in line with that of other Premier League clubs.
However, this hasn’t been the case so far, and the promise by the board has been broken after increases in a number of things, such as prices for coaches to away games increasing by £53, replica kits by £5, tickets to cup games by £1–£13, programmes by 50p, youth fixtures by £2, women’s matches by “record amounts,” and food and drink in general admission areas by 5%–15%.
The Chelsea board doesn’t want to see such a protest take place because we are already not playing well on the field, and now off-field issues will escalate the situation. It will be wise for the board to hear fans’ opinions and make sure they don’t face any issues when travelling for the game and the match’s ticket prices.
Things may get worse if the hostility between the supporters and the board doesn’t change, and this could lead to the supporters advancing their protest outside. The supporters’ dissatisfaction with the board’s management of the team has already been attributed to our performance.
Since they have issued warnings to the Blues’ ownership, hopefully, nothing will happen and the board will take note of their letter. Often, they only use banners to express their distaste during games on the stands. However, when things deteriorate, they begin protesting in the streets for their removal of ownership.
