Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez is suspended vs Leicester City for the FA Cup clash
Chelsea are all set to host Leicester City this weekend in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, and according to the Standard, star midfielder Enzo Fernandez will play no role in the game after he picked up a suspension.
The Blues faced Leeds United in the FA Cup fifth round and started the game dreadfully as midfielder Moises Caicedo was caught by the Leeds press on the edge of the box, allowing Mateo Joseph to score and give an early lead to the visitors.
However, the West London side responded well to early adversity as Nicolas Jackson equalized before Ukrainian international Mykhaylo Mudryk gave Chelsea the lead, finishing off a lovely move just before half-time.
In the FA Cup fifth round against Leeds United, Chelsea faced an early setback when Moises Caicedo’s error led to Mateo Joseph’s opening goal for the visitors. However, Chelsea fought back, with Nicolas Jackson equalizing before Mykhailo Mudryk put them ahead with a goal just before half-time.
Leeds leveled the score in the second half through the 20-year-old, but Conor Gallagher’s late goal secured a dramatic 3-2 victory for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, sending them into the quarter-finals.
Unfortunately, Chelsea will be without Fernandez for the upcoming match against Leicester City, as he received a yellow card for dissent in the match against Leeds. The Argentine midfielder expressed frustration with a decision that did not go his way, leading to his booking.
In accordance with Emirates FA Cup rules, players who accumulate two yellow cards in the competition are suspended for the subsequent fixture. Fernandez, the former Benfica midfielder, has now reached that limit and will consequently miss the upcoming game against Leicester.
