Chelsea star explains his “traditional defending” in the crazy game against Manchester City

The West Londoners, Chelsea, handed a blow to the reigning champions, Manchester City title hopes at the Etihad Stadium, with Rodri snatching a point late on after Raheem Sterling opened the score just before halftime.

Throughout Chelsea’s defence, Axel Disasi has proven himself to be durable, dependable, unassuming, and adaptable. The star defender has been like a tall wall that Manchester City players were struggling to cross.

Disasi, at least on the pitch, has not enjoyed the luxury of a stable team with rotating cast of central defensive partners throughout the season. Yet, the star centre-back has shown his amazing adaptability skills and outperformed his opponents in almost every match.

The efforts given by the star has been just amazing

Disasi, talking to Club Media, said:

“Sometimes I like so-called traditional defending. It depends on the way the game goes and of course, when the game goes as it did against Manchester City, I’m a defender who first of all has to do the job.”

“When I make blocks or tackles I have to express my feelings, It gives energy to the team on the pitch and then when Levi did a block, he did the same thing. Things like this I’m very happy with because I know the guys feel what I did. It’s very important and that was a crazy game. It was a game where it was good to defend in that way.”

Disasi’s display at the Etihad was arguably his best for the Blues.

John Carragher told Sky Sports after the match:

“I can’t remember a better defensive performance this season, certainly from a central defender, I’m talking about Chelsea, that was a John Terry performance I can’t give any higher praise than that.”

A wall that is tough to surpass

Chelsea’s rising star, Disasi

Axel Disasi, who joined from Monaco in early August, was immediately integrated into Mauricio Pochettino’s squad for the season’s opener against Liverpool. He scored on his debut, an instinctive finish from close range, and has been a regular starter ever since.

Disasi leads the Chelsea squad this season in appearances and minutes played in all competitions. He has enjoyed countless positive experiences throughout the campaign, leading the team with his positive and energetic attitude and learning from difficult moments.

The Blues have had multiple changes to their backline and each change has presented a new challenge for Disasi, but he has never shied away from the responsibility placed upon him, as his adaptability skills are remarkable. He is a huge star in making who will lead Chelsea to greater heights.
