A View From The Bridge

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard: I want Mason Mount to do well at Manchester United

Frank Lampard wishes Mason Mount success at Manchester United amid struggles

Manchester United completed a £55m move for the Mason Mount last summer which put a conclusion to the 25-year-old’s stay at his boyhood club, Chelsea. He still had a final year left in his contract before Chelsea pulled the plug on his time at Stamford Bridge. Mount always wanted to continue in West London and fight for the badge.

However for Todd Boehly & Co. selling an academy product made sense from a financial standpoint as it impacts the Financial Fair Play (FFP) compliance as pure profit, which means Chelsea can record the whole fee as profits.

Mason Mount signed a five-year deal at Old Trafford but his move to the north-west has gone far from plans with the England international having only made eight appearances for the Manchester Reds in the Premier League. He missed four months of action owing to a calf problem which initially looked non-serious. On the positives though, he returned to training earlier this week.

While it is difficult to watch a Cobham graduate struggle to live up to their potential you find a way to make joy out of it as for one of Chelsea’s League rivals, watching Mount suffer would be like finding a twister fries in your regular fries i.e. a moment of joy as he struggles amid the inconsistent season that Chelsea are enduring.

However, Chelsea icon and former manager Frank Lampard was speaking about how he is always available to his ex-players for advice and explained how he wanted his players to excel be it at Chelsea or away from the club. That is where the 45-year-old was quizzed about Mason Mount, and speaking to JOE, he said:

“Mason Mount moves to Manchester United as much as you know I have a real affiliation with Chelsea I’m happy for him I want him to go there and do well because I was part of that Journey.”

Those are such mature words from Frank Lampard and as Mount starts his comeback from injury, there definitely is a call or two on the line to his ex-gaffer about getting back to being himself and playing like his old self.
