Chelsea learn how much they have to pay if they want Roberto De Zerbi to replace Mauricio Pochettino

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino on AC Milan's radar for potential successor of Stefano Pioli next season

Chelsea will have to pay £12 million to Brighton & Hove Albion for release of Roberto De Zerbi

According to the Telegraph, (h/t Daily Mail), if Chelsea intend to appoint Roberto De Zerbi, they will have to pay Brighton & Hove Albion a compensation fee of around £12 million for him to leave the Seagulls.

The Italian coach is on the radar of many Premier League clubs, such as Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea. De Zerbi succeeded Graham Potter last season and drove them to European competition qualification.

His attractive style of football has impressed interested parties, and clubs are keen to appoint him as their next manager, but they will have to pay a reasonable sum to have his services.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed his departure at the end of the season, while Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United is increasingly getting uncertain for the upcoming campaign.

Meanwhile, the Blues continue to labour under Mauricio Pochettino, who took charge of the club this season. The board is in a state of dilemma, and if the club continue to underperform and fails to climb up the table, then they might be compelled to make a tough decision on Argentina’s future.

And it will be another typical move of Chelsea to sack a manager in the middle of the season, as they last did last season with Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter. Potter departed Brighton with a team that was contending with major clubs and well-organized. They gained a fresh outlook on the league with the arrival of De Zerbi.

Even though he has been praised for his intriguing football, we don’t know if he will be able to turn this youthful team into a serious force at Chelsea given that they have a fractured roster.

When his two main players, Moises Caicedo and Alexis MacAllister, left Brighton last season we noticed a decline in their performances. In addition to the fact that he would require his resources to meet his goals, it is unclear how long it will take for him to turn the club around.

So why not we instead back Pochettino for this season and see where he takes us? So far, he has done a reasonable job, and we have been competitive in domestic cup competitions. Maybe we will be more prepared for the Premier League next season.
