Mauricio Pochettino provided a promising injury update regarding Thiago Silva and Marc Cucurella, hinting at their potential inclusion in the Chelsea squad for the upcoming away game against Brentford on Saturday evening.

The news comes as a positive development for Chelsea fans, as the return of experienced defender Thiago Silva and versatile midfielder Marc Cucurella could bolster the team’s lineup and provide valuable options for Pochettino.

Silva’s presence brings stability and leadership to the defensive line, while Cucurella’s versatility adds depth and tactical flexibility to the midfield. Their potential availability adds optimism as Chelsea prepares for a crucial fixture against Brentford.

Thiago Silva has been sidelined for the past three games due to an injury, while Marc Cucurella has been recovering from an ankle injury sustained last year, keeping him out of action for a month. In Silva’s absence, Mauricio Pochettino has turned to Axel Disasi and Levi Colwill, deploying them in a 1-1 draw against Manchester City and a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool.

In the recent 3-2 victory over Leeds United, Trevoh Chalobah was handed a start, adding another dimension to Chelsea’s defensive lineup.

Meanwhile, Cucurella is among the names that could be sold next summer, as the Blues are in desperate need of making a profit and if they fail to make sales next summer, they could be at risk of breaching the Premier League Financial Fair Play rule.

However, both now seem to be returning to their full fitness after Pochettino provided a fresh update on their recovery, (h/t Football.London), and told the media:

“We need to assess him and Marc Cucurella. Both may be undecided, but maybe it is possible to be involved in the squad. Two good news: They will be possible in the squad.”

Mauricio Pochettino has recently favored a younger defensive pairing in the last few matches, sidelining Thiago Silva for a 3-1 victory against Aston Villa and maintaining the same lineup against Manchester City. This decision reflects Pochettino’s vision of cultivating a new defensive partnership, aiming to establish strong connections among players in preparation for the upcoming season. By affording younger players the opportunity to develop cohesion and synergy at the back, Pochettino seeks to nurture a more seamless and reliable defensive unit moving forward.
