Chelsea eye Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams as potential transfer target
Chelsea are already conducting their due diligence in the market as they gear up for another big transfer window and have cast their eyes on Nico Williams. The Londoners are said to be prioritizing signing a striker with links to Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, and Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyökeres.
Signing a number nine would not come as a cheap venture which could potentially hinder any attempt to bring one this summer. Any major signings at the Bridge would be directly proportional to the transfer fees that the West London side generates in sales as the pressure from Financial Fair Play rules builds up on Mauricio Pochettino & Co.
Despite these constraints, Todd Boehly & Co. are said to be giving serious consideration to making a probable move for Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams.
Nico Williams has been linked with a move away from Athletic Bilbao for a while now as the Spaniard has a £43m release clause on his current contract at San Mamés.
The 21-year-old has a wage bill that would spring him into the top earners at Chelsea although his economical transfer fees would make it feasible for the Blues. Nico Williams is primarily a left winger, although he can play on both flanks.
Athletic Bilbao have already prepared for Nico Williams’s prospective departure with the arrival of Álvaro Djaló from Braga this summer. The Spanish international boasts a tally of 6 goals and 11 assists in 27 appearances in all competitions this season.

Any inherent arrival of Nico Williams to Stamford Bridge may perhaps indicate an impending departure for Mykhailo Mudryk or Raheem Sterling from the club. Ukrainian international has already been linked with a move to Arsenal in the upcoming summer transfer window, while Raheem Sterling recently rejected prospects of moving to Saudi Arabia.
