A View From The Bridge

Carney Chukwuemeka details what Mauricio Pochettino told him before he came on vs Leicester City

Carney Chukwuemeka says Mauricio Pochettino told him to express himself in Chelsea 4-2 win vs Leicester City

Before stepping into the game, Carney Chukwuemeka uncovered what Mauricio Pochettino had told him. The midfield player dutifully heeded the Argentine’s advice, scoring the game’s pivotal goal to put Chelsea ahead in the game. Noni Madueke’s solo effort then increased the lead and guaranteed a trip to the FA Cup semifinal.

Carney Chukwuemeka’s introduction after halftime added much-needed quality to the game. The Blues midfielder became an instant hero when he was subbed on in the 78th minute, replacing Mykhaylo Mudryk, and later produced one of the best goals after combining with Cole Palmer.

Despite a season marred by injuries, the former Aston Villa player has proven time and time again why we can always rely on him when things matter most. After the game, Chukwuemeka was asked what inspired him to score the goal, and he told the BBC:

“The coach said to go on and express yourself, which I did. Cole said to me before the game that if I come on, he will assist me and fair play. His IQ is amazing; I knew as soon as I played it, he would find me. Fair play to him.’’

Chukwuemeka has tremendous potential, but injuries have kept him from realising it. If not, he would be a fantastic midfield player who can impact every game significantly. It’s amazing how mature he is to grasp the game and be available for linkup play. People will be able to see how amazing he is if he is available for every game.

When the team’s spirits were at their lowest, he showed up and scored the most crucial goals of the campaign. This is only half of his brilliance, as evidenced by how successfully he and Palmer worked together to produce a goal. We will be able to witness his skill if he plays in every game; injuries have precluded us from witnessing it thus far.

Chukwuemeka has a high ceiling, and Pochettino is aware of it. With the right guidance and if he maintains his form then he can go on to become one of the team’s best players in the future.
