Chelsea drawing up list of replacements for Mauricio Pochettino after Liverpool loss

Liverpool's verbal agreement with Ruben Amorim rattles Chelsea as Jurgen Klopp's departure looms.

Ruben Amorim tops the Chelsea managerial wish list to replace Mauricio Pochettino

Chelsea FC’s 0-1 defeat to Liverpool might have proved to be the last straw for the Blues’ fans, as the pressure is now reaching over the roof and Mauricio Pochettino and his time at the club seems to be about to come to a premature end.

According to Mail Sport, (h/t Sun), Todd Boehly and Co. are now looking for alternatives to Pochettino. Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim is among the managers on the list to replace the Argentine manager at Stamford Bridge.

The Portuguese giants are two points behind the table-toppers SL Benfica but with a game in hand. The 39-year-old’s work at the club seems to be appreciated by the Blues board and he is highly regarded as one of the best young managers in Europe today.

Chelsea are currently in a big dismay, and winning the Carabao Cup final could have been seen as massive progress under Pochettino. But the loss to Liverpool has further made the Argentine’s time at the club uncertain. Aside the result, the nature of the defeat also calls into question if Pochettino has what it takes to compete against the very best.

To add to his woes, a top-four finish seems challenging as the Blues are 17 points off fourth-place Aston Villa. Chelsea will have another shot at winning a domestic cup competition as they are still in the FA Cup and will face Leeds United in the fifth round this week.

Do we again need a change in management?

Do we truly require a managerial change after the events of last season? Terminating our association with Pochettino mid-season is unlikely to yield significant changes and may exacerbate the club’s precarious situation. It’s imperative to afford the 51-year-old a full season to demonstrate his capabilities and gauge the trajectory of our progress. Should there be no discernible signs of improvement by season’s end, then we can contemplate the necessity of managerial alterations.

How did the game go away from Chelsea against Manchester City?

Will Amorim be a good fit? Any manager who takes charge of this youthful Chelsea side will face the challenge of managing a squad that lacks organization, experience, and consistency. The Portuguese manager prefers a system with three defenders at the back, tasked with covering the wide defensive areas, alongside wide wingbacks and a specific double pivot in midfield.

If he takes over as our manager next season, he will face a daunting task. Pochettino should be under significant pressure now, as Chelsea supporters are accustomed to rapid success and may not be patient during a rebuilding phase. The management are on the same side and it remains to be seen how long they will endure before pulling the plug.
