Mauricio Pochettino says he spoke to Thiago Silva regarding his wife’s comments on Chelsea manager
Mauricio Pochettino was asked many questions during his most recent press conference prior to the FA Cup replay matchup between Aston Villa and Chelsea. One of the queries concerned Thiago Silva wife’s comments on the Argentine manager’s future.
Belle, Silva’s spouse, posted on Twitter, saying, “It’s time for change. Many fans agreed with her tweets, but it wasn’t in good taste.” Because you will be in the manager’s favour when things change, this breeds animosity between the manager and the fans.
The West Londoners booed off the pitch following a 4-2 defeat to Wolves that saw his side drop to 11th in the Premier League table. The fans and players’ anger got over the roof, which saw Silva’s reaction on X.
And during the media briefing, the 51-year-old was asked about the Brazilian’s wife’s comments about him, (h/t Football.London), Pochettino said:
“He came today to talk with me.”
Silva’s wife’s comments were in bad taste.
It’s one thing to voice your views and quite another to demand that he be fired. We have our board decide what to do with him moving forward for that. This is not good for a manager who is doing a respectable job in his first season as Chelsea’s coach. However, the last two losses were unquestionably unacceptable, and while it is fair to criticise someone, you cannot just demand that they be fired.
Sacking him won’t solve our problem because the issue is much deeper than that when you actually see it. He came and had already suffered many setbacks with injuries to plenty of players, but still, he made things work, and the game against Arsenal and Manchester City was a clear sign that we were improving.

Since they are still young and won’t always be at their absolute best, this is the reason for our inconsistent performances and Pochettino needs to address this. To observe where he leads us, we ought to give him at least a season.
