Mauricio Pochettino feels Chelsea players still had the hangover of a 4-1 defeat to Liverpool and felt the repeat of the loss against Wolves. The players and the boss are ultimately to blame for the 4-2 loss as they once again displayed a lack of commitment.
Chelsea opened the deadlock and appeared to have learned their lesson from the loss to Liverpool, but Wolves’ experienced side were better prepared and forced the host to make basic mistakes which resulted in a spree of goals from the visitors.
After the game, the Argentine manager was met with an avalanche of questions, one of which was whether the players appeared nervous after conceding against Wolves, (h/t Football. London)
“When you play for a Premier League team, it’s always difficult. That was the feeling after Liverpool that it’s affecting the team so much. All was difficult, and it was easy for them, with energy, to play their game.”
The Liverpool game might have affected us, but it was also a lesson for us to bounce back, and the Wolves match was a perfect encounter to recover from the Liverpool defeat, but we instead succumbed to pressure and suffered another embarrassing loss.
This is just another example of how we are far from ready to become a team that can regroup and win the next game. It all comes down to the mentality of the players and their drive to win the match, which we lack right now.
We cannot expect Pochettino to do everything in his first season. Fans keep forgetting that this is his first season as Chelsea manager, and he will need time. When we look at Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp, what do we learn? They were given plenty of backing by fans and the board.
Our board needs to make some changes and now set a different approach because signing young players will forever keep us in the same position and it will further slow our progress.
