Chelsea put in an impressive display at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City in 1-1 draw last weekend
The ongoing campaign has been nothing short of a challenge for Mauricio Pochettino and Chelsea. There has been a sense of struggle to stay in the top half of the Premier League table as Chelsea sit 10th level (on points) with Wolves.
There has been some massive changes in the top hierarchy since Todd Boehly took over the reigns at the Stamford bridge, the latest of them being appointment of Sam Jewell from Brighton. None of these changes have led to success on the field as of now.
Fortune favors the brave
Boehly will be hoping for a quick turnaround in Chelsea’s fortunes. Chelsea did show us some positive signs against Manchester City which according to Dean Jones was the best Chelsea have performed all season. Coming out of an away fixture to Manchester City with a draw has to be a massive result on paper for Mauricio Pochettino and Chelsea, with Raheem Sterling on the scoresheet. A late equalizer by Rodri ruined the party for Chelsea.
Visible progress on the pitch will come as a big relief to the Chelsea’s hierarchy, as Jones mentioned to GIVEMESPORT last week that some of the club’s players with long contracts were feeling “a bit concerned” about the project.
Jones told GIVEMESPORT following Chelsea’s draw against City:
“I was stunned by Chelsea’s performance, to be honest. They played like their lives depended on it. There was a relentless work rate about them. They employed great tactics in approaching the game, unsettling City where they thought they could hurt them, and they defended better. There were a lot of elements to Chelsea’s play that just haven’t been seen for most games across the 2023/24 season. So, there are definite signs of improvement in that sense. It’s probably their best performance from an all-round perspective all season, even if it started to fall away towards the end.”

Chelsea will now have a chance to salvage their season this weekend as they face Liverpool at the Wembley Stadium for the League Cup finals. A silverware could change a lot in a process and a project. Chelsea would be hoping to come out on Sunday and give another winning performance against another top side.
