Pep Guardiola makes sarcastic remark on Mauricio Pochettino’s comments after Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City
Pep Guardiola fired shots at Mauricio Pochettino’s comments on Chelsea’s performance in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City. The Argentine manager was impressed by his side’s display in a hard-fought 1-1 stalemate.
Chelsea opened the scoring through Raheem Sterling before the interval, and they were ahead for a long period. City, though, continued to exert pressure on the Blues but couldn’t find the back of the goal.
The Chelsea defence remained resilient until the 87th minute, when Rodri shot, took a touch off Trevoh Chalobah, and beat Dorde Petrovic. The hosts then started their search for a winning goal during the game’s closing stages, but the Blues managed to nullify their attack until the final whistle.
Following the full-time game, Guardiola, whose side is now third in the league, was asked about Pochettino’s comments on the game. He told BBC:
“Good, congratulations. If he believes that, that is good for his team.”
For us, it was an impressive performance.
Our performance demonstrated our competencies, which speaks volumes about us. One of the best teams in the world, City has many individual players who have the knack to swing the game either way. They also don’t back down from a challenge. However, we also have a younger side that isn’t always reliable.
Our players did a big task, and settling for a draw was a decent result for us, but we shouldn’t aim for a draw and have a winning mentality. This performance will give the players self-assurance and motivation to strive for more wins.
